Massachusetts AFL-CIO Endorses Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell for Re-Election

BOSTON, MA — The Massachusetts AFL-CIO announced its endorsement of Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell for re-election, citing her extraordinary record of fighting for workers across the Commonwealth, from recovering millions in stolen wages to securing landmark settlements that delivered real benefits for gig workers and holding corporations accountable for exploiting the people they employ.

“Working people are under pressure from every direction – rising costs and paychecks that can’t keep up, unregulated artificial intelligence, and an administration in Washington, D.C. eroding and ignoring bedrock worker protections,” said Chrissy Lynch, President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. “These pressures make it all the more important that we have an Attorney General who fights hard to protect working families here at home. Andrea Campbell has fought against the exploitation of workers by taking on corporations that steal wages, misclassify employees, and cut corners on safety, putting millions of dollars back in workers’ pockets. We are proud to endorse her for re-election and will be proud to fight alongside her for four more years.”

“Every case we bring, every dollar we recover, every worker we stand up for reflects the same conviction: working people deserve to be paid what they earn and treated with dignity and respect. We have used every tool available to make sure the law works for the people who show up every day and do the work,” said Campbell. “The AFL-CIO has been on the front lines of every fight that matters to working families: for fair wages, safe workplaces, and the right to organize. I am proud and deeply honored to have their endorsement for re-election.”

During her first term as Attorney General, Campbell has:

  • Recovered stolen wages for workers: Campbell has taken over 3,000 actions against employers for wage theft and violations of sick leave, benefiting 183,000 workers and delivering more than $240 million in unpaid wages and penalties.
  • Fought for gig workers: Campbell secured a landmark, nation-leading settlement with Uber and Lyft, delivering a $34 per hour minimum wage, healthcare contributions, and paid family and medical leave for thousands of drivers and their families across Massachusetts.
  • Protected workers from exploitation: Campbell has enforced child labor laws, prosecuted labor trafficking, and cracked down on employers who misclassify workers to avoid paying them what they are owed.
  • Lowered costs for workers: Campbell has blocked $2.5 billion in unfair utility rate hikes, cracked down on junk fees draining workers’ paychecks, and sued corporate landlords for colluding to drive up rent.
  • Stood up to corporate power: Campbell has taken on the most powerful corporations in the country, and won. A jury found Live Nation guilty of running an illegal monopoly at Massachusetts venues including House of Blues, MGM Music Hall at Fenway, and Leader Bank Pavilion. She secured a $145 million settlement for workers exploited by Amazon’s delivery system and joined the FTC in suing Amazon for anticompetitive practices that hurt consumers. She sued five of the nation’s largest corporate landlords for colluding to drive up rent. She also secured a $700 million settlement with Google for anticompetitive conduct.

Campbell is endorsed by Governor Maura Healey and Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, U.S. Senator Ed Markey, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern, U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, Reproductive Freedom for All, a coalition of Worcester County state and local officials, Franklin and Hampshire County leaders, leaders from across the Haverhill area, state and local leaders from Barnstable, Bristol and Plymouth counties, as well as Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund, and the Giffords PAC.
