Invest in our Youth

  • Further expand the Youth Development Fund. Andrea will ensure that there are no barriers to accessing quality youth jobs or programs in Boston. This starts with prioritizing funding and expansion of the Youth Development Fund which she spearheaded, and creating intentional investments in the city’s budget to do so. More funding towards paid internship opportunities with state and local governments, private sector and non-profit organizations, and accessible programs will create more meaningful opportunities for youth and students who cannot afford to do unpaid internships.

  • Empowering the Mayor’s Youth Council. Currently, the Mayor’s Youth Council has a small participatory budget role. Andrea will expand the roles and responsibilities of the Youth Council so she can hear about the concerns that matter most to young Bostonians. As Mayor, she will add more members to the council and participate in quarterly council meetings to inform the City’s agenda.

  • Ensure young people’s voices are reflected in city policy. We must ensure that our city government is representative of everyone, including our young people. As Mayor, Andrea will prioritize this representation, and guarantee that young people have a voice and influence in the City’s projects. This includes being a steadfast advocate for climate justice and housing affordability, investing in public education, and reimagining what public safety looks like in Boston.
