BOSTON, MA — Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell released the following statement on the results of Massachusetts’ primary elections:
“Last night, Massachusetts Democrats sent a clear message: we are energized, we are united, and we are ready to win in November. This campaign is about making sure Massachusetts residents have a fearless Attorney General fighting in their corner.
“We have made incredible progress these last three years: recovering millions in stolen wages for workers, blocking unfair utility rate hikes, holding Big Tech accountable for what they’ve done to our kids, and standing up to the Trump administration to protect our rights, our economy, and our democracy. But the work is far from finished. I’m running for re-election to continue to fight for the families still living paycheck to paycheck, defend the rights still under attack, and give the next generation more opportunities than the last.
“I also want to congratulate Senator Ed Markey on his primary victory. Ed has spent fifty years showing up for Massachusetts. He has never been for sale, has never backed down, and has never stopped fighting for us. I am proud to have stood with him and I cannot wait to stand with him again in November when we send him back to Washington to keep fighting for this Commonwealth.
“To every voter, every volunteer, every person who has stood with this campaign, thank you. Now let’s go win in November.”

Andrea Joy Campbell’s journey to become Massachusetts’ first Black woman Attorney General didn’t follow a traditional path. After losing her mother in a car accident as an infant and entering the foster care system while her father was incarcerated, Andrea was raised by a community of family and educators who believed in her potential. Her twin brother, Andre, died in Department of Correction custody due to inadequate medical care – a tragedy that drives her fight for accountability and fairness in our justice system. The first in her family to go to college, Andrea went on to graduate from Princeton and UCLA Law, serve as legal counsel to Governor Deval Patrick, and become the first Black woman to serve as Boston City Council President. Raised in Roxbury and the South End, Andrea is a proud Boston public school graduate who attended five different schools, including Boston Latin. Her story – of loss, resilience, faith, and opportunity – is an American story of what’s possible when the government works for people and when someone is in your corner fighting for you.
