Standing Up to Donald Trump

Trump tried to disqualify eligible voters and throw out lawfully cast ballots. Andrea fought back, co-leading a lawsuit with 24 states to block his unconstitutional voting order and winning in court when Trump’s Justice Department demanded Massachusetts voter data. Now, Trump is coming for mail-in voting and restricting voter eligibility but Andrea is fighting back again. Your right to vote is not up for negotiation.

Trump has attacked voting rights, gutted diversity programs, and weaponized federal agencies against communities of color, immigrants and LGTBQ+ communities. Andrea has fought back at every turn, in court and in communities across Massachusetts, making clear that everyone’s rights and humanity are protected under Massachusetts law.

Trump’s reckless policies have threatened Massachusetts jobs, research funding, and economic stability. Andrea has gone to court to protect NIH research grants, defend public universities and massive clean energy projects, and block funding cuts that would devastate communities, successfully protecting over $3 billion for Massachusetts.

Andrea knows ICE has gone too far. She went to court and won, blocking the Trump Administration’s efforts to force Massachusetts agencies to cooperate with ICE. She went to court to stop Trump from illegally stripping immigrant students of their visas and securing the release of a Massachusetts resident wrongfully arrested by ICE. She issued a Know Your Rights guide for immigrants and families, and launched a statewide portal with Governor Healey to report ICE misconduct. No one in Massachusetts should live in fear of an agency operating outside the law.

Trump’s EPA has tried to dismantle the protections that keep our air clean, our water safe, and our communities healthy. Andrea took the Trump Administration to court and won – defending offshore wind projects in Massachusetts including Vineyard Wind and South Shore Wind, bringing down energy costs, adding clean jobs, and addressing the climate crisis. Andrea led a coalition of 24 states to sue the EPA for rescinding the landmark Endangerment Finding that underpins all federal greenhouse gas regulation. She’s also challenged Trump’s attacks on clean vehicle standards, solar energy programs for low-income households, and environmental justice grants.

On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order trying to end birthright citizenship, a constitutional right guaranteed for over 150 years. Andrea co-led the lawsuit the very next day, won a nationwide injunction, and has fought the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Fourteenth Amendment is the reason a Black girl from Roxbury could grow up to be your Attorney General, and she’s not backing down.

Reproductive freedom is under relentless attack, and Andrea has been fighting back from day one. She launched the state’s first confidential hotline for abortion care, co-sponsored a law protecting Massachusetts doctors and nurses from out-of-state prosecution, fought to keep mifepristone available through telehealth, and defended women’s access to no-cost birth control. In Massachusetts, reproductive freedom is protected, and Andrea will never stop fighting to keep it that way.

Trump tried twice to impose illegal tariffs that drove up the cost of groceries, gas, dairy, lumber, and cars. The Supreme Court struck down the first round, and, in a lawsuit brought by Andrea and more than 20 other states, a federal court struck down the second. Nearly 90% of the cost of Trump’s tariffs fell on American consumers and businesses. Andrea isn’t letting him keep raising prices illegally.

When Trump tried to illegally dismantle four federal agencies that fund libraries, museums, minority-owned businesses, and services for the unhoused, Andrea sued with a coalition of 20 other attorneys general and won. Massachusetts’ cultural institutions and the communities they serve are protected.

Trump signed an executive order to cut federal funding for NPR and PBS, threatening local stations and the free educational programming millions of Massachusetts families rely on. Andrea filed a brief alongside 22 other attorneys general to block it, because access to trusted public media and educational resources shouldn’t depend on who is in the White House.

Making Massachusetts More Affordable

Your rent is too high, and Andrea is doing something about it. She successfully sued five of the nation’s largest corporate landlords and the rent-pricing software companies they used to collude and artificially inflate rent. She also secured a first-of-its-kind $10 million settlement for homeowners targeted by predatory mortgage lending practices.

Every worker deserves to be paid what they earn. Andrea has sued more than 600 employers for cheating workers out of wages and ignoring paid sick leave, recovering more than $35 million in back pay and penalties for workers across Massachusetts.

Hidden fees and deceptive billing are costing Massachusetts families, and Andrea is leading the nation in cracking down on them. Andrea issued historic regulations to protect consumers from junk fees – from concert tickets and hotel bookings to subscription services and apartment rentals. She secured a $6.5 million settlement with a major home security company for burying illegal charges in customers’ bills, and she’s not stopping there.

When gas and electric companies tried to pad their profits on the backs of Massachusetts families already struggling with sky-high bills, Andrea fought back and won. She has blocked unfair utility rate hikes, saving Massachusetts families as much as $437 million.

Gig workers deserve a fair wage and real benefits. Andrea secured a nation-leading settlement with Uber and Lyft, delivering a $34/hour minimum wage, healthcare, and paid family leave for thousands of drivers and their families across Massachusetts.

Massachusetts doesn’t have enough housing, and that’s driving up costs for everyone. Andrea enforced a statewide law requiring communities served by public transit to allow multifamily housing, opening the door to more homes in more neighborhoods and making it easier for families to afford to stay here.

When UnitedHealth tricked Massachusetts residents into buying junk insurance that left them without real coverage, Andrea took them to court and won a $165 million judgment. She’s also sued the nation’s largest insulin manufacturers for using deceptive pricing schemes to put life-saving medicine out of reach for the people who need it most.

JetBlue and American Airlines tried to form an alliance that would have eliminated competition and driven up the cost of flights in and out of Boston. Andrea went to court to block it, and won. Traveling shouldn’t cost more just because airlines decided to stop competing with each other.

Amazon used its market dominance to force vendors into agreements that drove up prices for consumers across Massachusetts, often without their knowledge. Andrea joined the FTC and a coalition of states in suing Amazon for these monopolistic practices. No company, no matter how powerful, should be able to rig the market against the people it serves.

Andrea secured a $700 million multistate settlement with Google for anticompetitive conduct in its app store, including $1.4 million directly for Massachusetts. When powerful tech companies abuse their market position to squeeze out competition and charge consumers more, Andrea holds them accountable.

Live Nation used its monopoly over venues like House of Blues, MGM Music Hall at Fenway, and Leader Bank Pavilion to drive up ticket prices and crush competition. When the federal government settled, Andrea kept fighting alongside 26 other state attorneys general, and a jury found Live Nation guilty of operating an illegal monopoly.

Protecting Our Kids and Our Communities

Social media companies knew their platforms were addicting young people and hurting their mental health, and they hid it. Andrea filed lawsuits against Meta and TikTok for deliberately designing their platforms to exploit young users. The Massachusetts Supreme Court just ruled that Meta must face her lawsuit. She’s not backing down.

JUUL illegally targeted children with its marketing and sparked a teen vaping epidemic. Andrea took them to court and won, securing a historic $600 million settlement to hold them accountable and protect young people from exploitation.

No child should be sent to work in unsafe conditions or cheated out of wages just because an employer thinks they can get away with it. Andrea has cracked down on  employers across Massachusetts for violating child labor laws, from restaurants to construction sites, making sure young workers are protected, paid fairly, and not put in harm’s way.

When Trump and RFK Jr. tried to bully healthcare providers into abandoning their trans patients, threatening to cut off Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, Andrea sued. A federal judge permanently blocked their threats. Medical decisions belong with patients, families, and doctors. Not politicians.

Trump has tried to gut teacher training programs, cut student grants, and dismantle the Department of Education. Andrea went to court to stop him. Every child in Massachusetts deserves access to a quality public education, and that’s worth fighting for.

Andrea created the first-ever AG Youth Advisory Council to bring young people directly into the work of shaping policy and advocacy across the Commonwealth. The people most affected by these decisions deserve a seat at the table.

Gambling companies have found new ways to target young people, and Andrea is cracking down. She led a bipartisan coalition of states to shut down illegal sports betting on Kalshi, which was offering wagers to teenagers against Massachusetts law. She has also worked with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to limit how licensed sportsbooks can market their products and prohibited the use of gambling data to target people with gambling or substance use disorders.

The opioid crisis has claimed more than 20,000 Massachusetts lives over the last two decades, and Andrea is making sure those responsible are held accountable. She secured a historic $7.4 billion national settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family – including $108 million for Massachusetts – for their role in creating and profiting from the opioid epidemic. Andrea also reached a $350 million national settlement with Publicis Health, the marketing firm that helped push addictive opioids to doctors and patients.

Every person and family in Massachusetts deserves to feel safe in their community. That’s why Andrea is taking on the organized criminal activity – including drug trafficking operations, illegal gun sales, and commercial sex trafficking networks. She’s using every tool available to go after bad actors, hold them accountable, and make Massachusetts communities safer for everyone.
